Transfer WhatsApp chats from an iPhone to an Android device

This is how you can transfer WhatsApp chats from an iPhone to an Android device easily.

Many users are afraid of losing their WhatsApp communications when switching from an iPhone to an Android device (or vice versa). Yes, you can back up and restore your messages, but only when switching from iPhone to iPhone or Android device to Android device.

There was no approved method for backing up and restoring messages across platforms. Until now, that is.

After what seemed like a lifetime and many demands from users all around the world, WhatsApp has announced that the chat history may now be transferred between iOS and Android devices. Continue reading for a detailed description of the steps.

Step-by-step process to transfer WhatsApp chats from an iPhone to an Android

There is a catch before we begin. This official procedure is only applicable to new Samsung devices.

WhatsApp, on the other hand, has stated that compatibility for more Android brands would be added soon.

Now that we’ve gotten everything out of the way, let’s look at how to transfer chats between iPhone and Android.

Aside from the two phones, all you need is a USB-C to Lightning cable.

Make sure your Android smartphone is brand new or has been factory reset before you begin.

Connect it to an iPhone through the previously described cable, then launch the Samsung Smart Switch app. A QR code will be shown, which must be scanned using the iPhone.

After scanning, tap the “Start” button on the iPhone and go to the next steps on the Samsung smartphone.

When the transfer is finished, launch the WhatsApp app (version 2.21.16.20 or higher) on the Android phone with the same phone number and select “Import.”

Even though it is still in its early stages, the process is quite straightforward and works seamlessly between Samsung and Apple.

Now, we’re hoping that chats may be moved to Android devices from other manufacturers soon and that switching between operating systems will be even easier.

It will also be interesting to observe when Apple will provide a comparable function – and when the Android to iOS device transfer will be accomplished.

Other methods to transfer WhatsApp chats from an iPhone to an Android

In the meanwhile, there are other (not so simple) solutions. However, we recommend that you use them with prudence. One approach is to export each WhatsApp chat separately using an email account.

To do so, go to the “Settings” menu and pick “Chat Settings” and then “Email Chat.”

After you’ve chosen the chat to backup, a pop-up window will appear asking if you want a backup with or without media.

Choose your preferred option, input your Mail ID, and click “Send.” An email with a comprehensive chat history in the form of a text document is sent to you.

The other alternative is to use third-party apps, which may need a fee, and provide a plethora of backup tools and settings.

WazzapMigrator and AnyTrans are two examples of these programs. However, be aware that even minor errors or bugs can result in data loss. (While we’re on the subject, here’s how to properly backup your cell phone data.)
